Registration for the 2026-2027 school year opens on February 2, 2026

Kindergarten is offered at all 41 Burnaby Elementary Schools. Students entering Kindergarten in the Fall (September 2026) (children born in 2021) must register at their attendance area school. To find the school that your child is eligible to attend, click here.

The following documents will be required to register:

  1. Proof of birth date for the student (birth certificate or passport)
  2. Proof of guardianship (parents’ or guardians’ as shown on birth certificate or other appropriate legal documentation such as guardianship order).
  3. Proof of citizenship for the parent (Canadian birth certificate, citizenship card, passport, permanent resident card)
  4. Proof of citizenship for the student (Canadian birth certificate, citizenship card, passport, permanent resident card)
  5. Proof of residency. The parent or guardian and student must be ordinarily resident in British Columbia.  Two (2) documents are required.
    • At least one item from Category A
    • At least one item from Category B
Category A (Primary Proof):
    • Long-term lease or rental agreement (The full document, signed by both the landlord and tenant.)
    • City of Burnaby Property Tax or Utility Tax bill (The full document)
    • Land Title Certificate (the full document) – You can get this at the Land Title Office
Category B (Supporting Proof):
    • BC Hydro (Current bill, the full document)
    • Fortis BC (Current bill, the full document)
    • Cable bill (Current bill, the full document)
    • Homeowner or tenant insurance (Current bill, the full document)
    • BC driver’s license (back and front) (Not an Interim Card)
    • BC vehicle registration (Current bill, the full document) (Not an Interim Card)
    • Canadian bank account, letter from bank (current, with bank stamp/signed)
The registration is not complete if any of the above documents are incomplete or missing.
The student and parent/guardian must both be living in Burnaby to register.
The school may request additional documentation if staff are unsure whether the documents provided have met the criteria for registering. Parents will be contacted if this is the case.
