On November 11th, two important things will take place. First, those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and gave their life for us will be honored throughout our nation. Secondly, Canadians all across our country will have the chance to think about the tragedy of war and the beauty of peace. On this day there will be many memorials in various cities and towns throughout our communities. Everyone will stand in silence and present wreaths in honor of all those who have sacrificed their lives in war.
At Parkcrest we will be having our Remembrance Day Assembly this Friday, November 8th at 11am in the school gym. Please join us if you are able.
The story of Indigenous service in the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War and later Canadian Armed Forces efforts is a proud one. It has been estimated that as many as 12,000 First Nations, Metis and Inuit people served in the great conflicts of the 20th Century, with at least 500 of them sadly losing their lives. Indigenous people have a long and proud tradition of military service in Canada. From the earliest days, before Canada was even a country of its own to the present day, thousands of First Nations, Métis, Inuit and other Indigenous men and women have served bravely and well in uniform.
